Years of trapping experience

MEET KEVIN

Once upon a time, Kevin Gouge, a retired engineer, started volunteering for Thames Coast Kiwi Care; a community-led trapping group that protects the Southernmost population of kiwi on the Western side of Hauraki Coromandel.

Kevin used his engineering skills to come up with a trap tool that would make clearing & cleaning traps safer & more efficient... he succeeded

in making a very clever tool that TCKC trappers now won't go without.

MEET SHEENA

Sheena Beaton has been the contract Coordinator for Thames Coast Kiwi Care  for 7+ years managing a mustelid trapping network protecting and enhancing a remnant kiwi population.  In 2006 surveys indicated just 28 birds, and now there are over 350 kiwi in the project area!

TCKC  has 60+ volunteer trappers who carry out fortnightly trap checks of predominantly DOC200 traps over 5,000 ha.  There is a lot of trapping experience in the group and TCKC trappers have been using the TrapEaze tool for 10 years - trappers swear by it and many won't go trapping without it!

Sheena is passionate about protecting native & taonga species through predator control and saw the value in sharing Kevin's idea with the rest of NZ's predator control community....

So Kevin & Sheena have teamed up to bring you this ingenious tool.
